Hi. I know it is hot in Le Puy now but I notice thunderstorms forecast. Do I need rain pants? I will be taking a rain coat. Thanks for your help.

If you wear shorts and a poncho the poncho should cover your pack and most of your clothing. Bare legs are waterproof.:D

I walked two weeks in the rain at the end of May/beginning of June. The high for the day was around 18 degrees Celsius and I found it too hot to walk in my raincoat. I had a dollar poncho with me and I used that. It was easy to take off and put on as the rain came and went.

Hi, take rain pants in winter – to keep dry and for insulation from the cold. Don’t bother in summer. Just get wet and dry off when the sun comes out, or at your accommodation.

Hi, Helen,
I think (as already posted above) there's no need for rain pants in July & August on any Camino. Anyway those are summer (usually afternoon) thunderstorms when it's better to take a shelter and not expose yourself to lightnings.
Take care and enjoy!

Summer heat + rain + rain pants and you'll sweat like a pig (putting it bluntly). Otherwise you can bet your bottom dollar you'll see rain coming, struggle into your rain pants and it will either be over in a flash (summer storms = high intensity/short duration) or it won't rain at all and you'll be a walking sauna.
Leave them behind in summer.

It depends what you mean by rain pants, and how far you're walking. I had a pair of cheap, very light pair of rain pants that I'm glad I had. Everyone's body is different, though. For me, I am much more comfortable in rain pants + rain jacket (one that I can unzip) than I am in a poncho.

The short ansewer is, "no." Unfortunately, you cannot walk the Camino and cover every contingency. In gaming parlance, the "odds" are in your favor.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
I used to use an Altus raincoat. I always wear shorts. I have recently switched to a very light cape and prefer this, although I have to roll up the sleeves of my shirtjacket so they don't get wet.
This was fine even on a cold 4 degrees/rainy day as long as I kept moving.

Do do,I need rain pants in September and October . .

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

September on the Le Puy route, no - September can be quite warm. October, particularly late October, and particularly on the higher elevations (Le Puy to Conques), may bear more thought. It depends on when and where you start, and the longer term forecast just before you begin, and your personal preferences.

I start September 3 at Le Puy and finish October 12 at SJDP. ACCUWEATHER seems to mention rain a lot .

Dear fellow pilgrims! :) I hope to walk from Le Puy to Santiago later this year. I was thinking about starting at some point in august so that I manage to reach Santiago before it gets too cold...
Hey! Thinking about walking Le Puy this year. I am a solo female traveller. On my previous Camino (Spain) I stayed in municipal albergues, but this time I would like to try something...
