Hi everyone,

I've heard from other pilgrims that the Botafumerio doesn't operate at every Pilgrim's Mass at the Cathedral in Santiago, that it depends on donations?!

Please say this isn't true?!!

Santiago is knee-deep in youth groups today, so we should see it swinging. If you go to the Cathedral website, it explains when it swings. In general it is paid for.

I was in the Cathedral for the Pilgrim's mass on All Saints Day. Bells were ringin' choir was singin' and the smoker was swingin'!

I was so excited to see it swing on Tuesday, July 2nd. What an incredibly moving sight. I was moved to tears upon seeing it and wept when the the sign of peace came and everyone eagerly shared their words in all different languages. Beautiful! My husband walked with me from Valenca Portugal to Santiago. It was tough at times but beautiful and moving for me.

My son, Will, and I saw it swing as soon as we arrived at the cathedral Sunday,June 30 because the bishop from Portugal was saying Mass. To see it upon arriving was a great joy. It did not swing again until Tuesday, June 2 at the pilgrim's Mass. When I left Arizona I said I would be okay not seeing it because I didn't want to get my hopes up. To see it twice was incredible. The views are much better if you side on the sides and not facing the altar.
