Re Portuguese Central Route (Porto to Tui only)

I am hoping to do Porto to Tui soon (March). Can someone kindly advise on following: (1) Is it necessary to book room more than one day in advance?; (2) is it necessary to arrange luggage transfer in advance? I did Sarria to SdeC in October 2017 and all this was very easy (via Booking.com), but I would like to know in relation to CP as footfall is likely to be a lot less (?). Any advice gratefully received. Thx, Alex

Difficult to say...and probably alot depends on what time of year you're going.

I tend to like to book a day ahead but it's not always necessary, and I walked in peak season.

On a few occasions, I was the only person in an albergue that had been full/completo the previous night. On another occasion in one town, the municipal was full by midday but the most gorgeous private albergue, in the most stunning location in the same town, was completely empty and my companion and I were the only 2 people in a 24-bed albergue.

I think the greatest variable is where you are on the 'wave' and whether you stick to Brierley's stages or are willing to try doing your own thing.

Luggage transfer - really easy, just organise the night before. Just as easy as CF.

NOTE FROM MODERATOR: I have moved this thread to the “normal” Portugues camino subforum. But I am leaving Albertinho’s comments here since they might help explain. This is very confusing, I know, but the Interior route is different from the Central route, and the central route is the “normal” one.

Porto to Tui is not on the Caminho Português Interior !
So you are in the wrong subform

here is the routing of the INTERIOR caminho Português.
As you see Porto and Tui are far away from this route. Porto is at the ocean side
So if you have a question about Porto or Tui place your question at the Caminho Português forum and not in a subforum like the Interior because the route you mean is the Central caminho. Confusing I admit but there are several routes in Portugal. The Central (Porto to Santiago via Tui)
The coastal Porto to Santiago via Caminha/ A Guarda
The Interior from Farminhão nearby Coimbra and Chaves to Ourense where in hits the Via de la Plata from Salamanca

regarding your first question and I presume you meant the Potuguese Central route , Porto to Tui . I walked in August 2018 and there was always ample beds at the albergues and I think August is much busier than March. I did not do luggage transfer but I cannot forsee any trouble if you follow the normal channel.
