Re-routing makes Lugo less than 100km from Santiago

I am so glad that we walked when we did. It seems that many changes are being made away from the old route, which just confirms our feelings that we will not walk the Camino again.
Researching walks on the northern Galician coast (Ruta do Mar) instead.

Which I'm guessing makes no difference to those walking from Oviedo. It will only affect those going from Lugo directly?

As I see it re-routing doesn't stop a person walking the original way.

Do either of you know how the distance is affected by doing the Sobrado dos monxes variation? Not that it will make a massive amount of difference to me.

No difference for those starting in Oviedo.

For the rest, and regarding when the Pilgrim Office will start acting on those changes, perhaps we can add that to the list of questions we had for the PO and see if our trusted @t2andreo can find out. If he hasn't already gone rough his alloted number of questions to his bosses for this volunteer stint that is. :D I thank him in advance.

The Pilgrim Office has told a local newspaper that they will still give a Compostela to pilgrims who begin their camino in Lugo: http://www.lavozdegalicia.es/notici...mpostelas-salidas-lugo/0003_201708L4C1992.htm
Thank you for this link. If we ever wondered if the Camino was religious/cultural or tourism, the Xunta has just told us it is tourism:

"Sobre esta polémica está de fondo la decisión que tomó el gobierno gallego de retirar a la Consellería de Cultura y a Patrimonio las competencias en los caminos de Santiago y otorgárselos a la Axencia Galega de Turismo. «Moitos traballos que se fixeron de suposta mellora non contaron coa presencia de técnicos de Patrimonio ou polo menos de expertos», señalaron.

St James' Way - Self-guided 4-7 day Walking Packages, Reading to Southampton, 110 kms
As if you ever thought anything else. ;)

Money always comes first when someone brings politics into a situation.
