I have just come home from a long Camino from Seville to Astorga and then on to Santiago de Compostela. I posted Via de la Plata updates as I was walking but did not do anything on the Frances section. Some of you may know that I have photographed many Camino routes over the last five years. I have actually hiked approximately 11,000 km in five years, a large proportion of it being Camino.

I carry a heavy 35mm nikon d80 with me on all my walks and weather permitting have it strapped to my body all day long. I then spend several weeks editing my work when i get home.

I think it might be useful for some Camino members to have a look at it to give a "feel" of what a winter Camino can be. I will post a special Via de Plata section in less than a week.

Here is the link. http://dermotdolan.blogspot.ie/2016/03/camino-frances-astorga-to-santiago-de.html

I am just editing this post I have just completed the Via de la Plata post, as I think it might be pushing the forum rules to far I wont put a Via de la Plata link here, it will be on the Camino Frances Blog

Hope this is ok Regards Dermot (Nalod)

These are beautiful Dermot. Thank you for sharing your eye for beauty, computer talent once back home and your wit, both in some of your shots and comments.

A question: what dates were you on tne Frances and how typical is this little amount of snow for those dates?

Thank you very much for your kind comments, the dates on the Frances were 29 th February to 9 March 2016. I cannot comment on how typical the snow as it was first "Snow Camino". But in reality the snow was not a problem.

Dermot, I just took a look at your blog and website. What wonderful work. I smile when I see all the pictures you take of the textures of the land, the windows and doors, because they always catch my eye. But my sad pictures do not compare to yours. Between ypu amd I, I think you could expand your business by taking people on the Caminos to teach them about photography. I would be your first client, and I don't need to have by bags schlept, my meals waiting for me, and I am happy to lull everyone to sleep with my snoring in a public or private albergue ;).

Your gorgeous photos bring back wonderful memories for me, of winter 2014. Thank you so much!

But you seem to have struck many more pilgrims on the way than I did!

Thank you very much Anemone del Camino. Firstly I will say to you keep taking your photographs and don't be too harsh on yourself. I have thought of bringing groups but I know I will be faced with problems re public liability insurance and maybe even need a travel agents licence. My Spanish is also lower than basic. But yes I wont rule out the idea. I am 58 this year and have no other employment. I have invest huge time in this project and the website and it just is not making any money, but I still feel it is worthwhile. Again your encouragement is appreciated. Now I will finish editing my Via de la Plata work and this might be live witin a day. I will try to post a link on the VDP section or just check the blog. Dermot

Very well done, Dermot. Excellent photos. Respect for carrying the DSLR - I thought you might have opted for much lighter gear. I use Canon full-frames at home but on the Camino I have been using a Sony RX100 for weight reasons - the quality is outstanding (see some examples on: https://carrigmanblog.wordpress.com/2015/05/11/camino-de-santiago-st-jean-pied-de-port-to-logrono/).

John I had a look at your images they are excellent, great quality. My problem is budget and that sony you mentioned is very reasonable in cost. I literally operate on a slim shoe string an eight year old nikon d80 with one "kit" lens a Tamron 18-200 (about 1.4kg weight) a use a harness all the time.

Regards Dermot
