We are travelling from Canada this summer (July) and will be taking the TVG train from Paris to Irun where we will be walk part of the Del Norte as far as Gijon. We already have the Cicerone book "The Northern Caminos", but are now wondering if there are other guides out there that are superior or just as good that we could add to our resources. Thanks for any help you could give.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
If you can read Spanish, Editorial Buen Camino has a good guide. If you read German, or just like detailed maps Rother has a red guidebook with lots of info. I used Buen Camino on the Norte, Cicerone on the Primitivo and it did the job.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

While I've been learning Spanish this last year, I don't feel confident in my abilities yet to have a Spanish guidebook. Thank you for your other suggestions - we will look into them.

Hi, Sandy! So you're hooked it seems. :)

I don't have anything to add, but did want to say that I have given the link to your blog to several people thinking about the route from Lisbon. I think it gives a good perspective on that much debated topic whether whether it's a good idea to start from Lisbon or not. Hope you are well, Laurie

If you want to purchase a great guidebook with excellent maps I recommend Guia Practica del Camino del Norte (Costa y Primitivo) 2015 (http://guias.editorialbuencamino.com/productos/guia-del-camino-del-norte-costa-y-primitivo) (in Spanish but very user friendly maps even if you don't read Spanish)...which shows the Camino del Norte, alternative routes, danger and caution areas, steep uphills and downhills, albergues, cathedrals, points of interest, and scenic lookouts...it is the best guide I have found on the Camino del Norte and it was recommended by several Camino del Norte Associations.

Hi Sandy
I did a read on your blog, it is lovely and it bought back so many memories from my PC in 2013. I had forgotten about the Pastel de Nata ( how could I, they are wonderful)
Thank you for sharing!
Best regards
