Thank you William.
I had a look at the website and it looks really beautiful - but you are right, at 220 Euro a night (or 750 Euro for a suite) its not quite what we are looking for!
I have booked into the Hotel Ovetense just around the corner from the cathedral - http://www.hotelovetense.com/ - (30 Euro per double room) and will let you all know what it is like when we get back on October.

... and as for Lugo, I have stayed at the Gran Hotel once. It is not a typical pilgrim place, a bit run down... but trying to be 4+stars if you know what I mean. (See map for location)

I have also have had some friends stay at a pension right outside the roman walls, but I can not remember the name of the place (see map for location).

I made this map of Lugo with some points of interest on it, so you can get an idea:

Don't have any more specific recommendations, sorry :-( But I know there are several pension-like places and it will not be as busy as Santiago. I would not worry too much about not getting a place to sleep.

Un saludo,
Ivar

I wouldn't book ahead. You may want to stop short, or go much further than you thought you might, it is so hard to know how you are going to feel. All you need is the Confraternity book. Megan

Hi Meg,
We will be travelling by car to Pamplona after walking from Roncesvalles to Santiago. We decided to drive back to Pamplona get our flight home - taking about a week - in order to visit those places we won't be able to visit whilst walking. One of the places is Oviedo where there is a very precious relic referred to in a saying:
"Quien va a Santiago y no al Salvador, visita al criado y deja al Señor Whoever goes to Saint James and not to the Saviour, visits the servant and misses the Master.”
The other place I've missed on previous caminos is Santo Domingo de Silos so we will stay there to hear the Gregorian Chants.
I have mangaged to find accommodation in the other places.
Pilgrim blessings,
