Discounts on Renfe to travel to La Coruña and Santiago de Compostela

On the occasion of being Jacobean Holy Year 2010, the Galician Government has established an agreement with the railway company Renfe for tourists who go to La Coruña and Santiago de Compostela to enjoy discounts on their train tickets.

With the new conditions of travel by train travel between the two cities of Galicia which takes some half an hour, the aim is to take the tourist influx this year to also visit La Coruna, propelling the tourism throughout the region.

Not yet known is the percentage of discount to be applied, but has also spoken to conduct joint promotions and packages that include arts, gastronomy, music, architecture and design.

There will then be a number of Renfe promotions for travel around Galicia

Well, that seems interesting. :D Do you have any information about the time when these offers will be available ? I'm going to book our renfe tickets from irun to ponferrada, and would be curious to know if they would qualify for such offers.

...I just read in the paper today that there is now a similar deal with Iberia.... need to investigate this... :)

Greetings from a sunny Santiago,

St James' Way - Self-guided 4-7 day Walking Packages, Reading to Southampton, 110 kms
The day after I arrived in Santiago I made a hugover day trip up to A Coruña on the train, it was pretty cheap anyway without any special offers. Had a nice walk around town and beach and went to a v boring game at Riazor. Great location for a city but the attractive old town is dwarfed by the many modern apartment blocks (like many Spanish cities).
