My partner and I are walking El Camino in July. We need a private room and bath so we can't stay in refugios. Is it necessary to book reservations in advance (before leaving home) or can one find a room by calling ahead each evening?

St James' Way - Self-guided 4-7 day Walking Packages, Reading to Southampton, 110 kms
Hi Traceylind, July can be pretty busy. You should'nt have any trouble getting places to sleep in large villages and towns but in smaller places it would be better to book ahead. If you order the CSJ of UK's guide book you will find a few recommended hotels, hostals, fondas etc with telephone numbers listed in the book. Take a cell phone with you and ask someone at each hotel to book a few days ahead for you. And, if you want your luggage carted from one hotel to the next, the hotel will call a taxi service for you to do that.
Buen camino!

We will be walking the English rout in July and would like to know if anyone has suggestions regarding lodging in Coruna o el Ferrol. I am looking for an upgrade to hostels, more like a b and b.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

Check out the CSJ's downloadable guide to the Camino Ingles - http://www.csj.org.uk/guides-online.htm It has up to date information on accommodation all along this route. For A Coruna and/or Ferrol you can book by e mail before you go. There is no shortage of accommodation at all prices in both places. In my experience you can simply phone ahead each day to book for the next day - but the stages are also so regular you could book accommodation for whole route when you start.

Buen Camino

I do not need a private room, but worried about finding somewhere to stay. Does anyone suggest making reservations at the albergue through out the route of SJPdP to Santiago?

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

Only some albergues take reservations. The municipal and parochial albergues generally do not take reservations or accept forwarded packs. Some private albergues require that pilgrims arrive on foot or bicycle. Pensiones, hostales, and hoteles usually take reservations; rates will begins at about 25E per night for a single (30E for a double).
