Can anyone tell me what town would be good to have a rest day from Le Puy to Conques

Many pilgrims take a rest day in Conques itself. Between Le Puy and Conques is a string of small towns where you will likely be staying - MMD has the details on available lodging. Any of them would make a nice rest day if you wished - many of them are listed in "The Prettiest Villages in France" so it's quite hard to go wrong. Stop where you like and enjoy it!

Or when the weather is bad. Along that stretch there are several steep, rocky descents that are best avoided, if possible, on a rainy day.
