I am not much of a meat eater, but the hamburger that I had in Feudo Real in Grado was amazing — maybe that’s because I was starved for protein after the walk, who knows. They have fancier items, and I believe they use only meat they have produced themselves.Starting my first Camino on Tuesday! Would love to hear any particular recommendations for places to eat along the Primitivo, as the food is always my favourite part of travel...
Also our Albergue, Ponte Ferreira, in Ferreira. The Dutch couple were wonderful.Starting my first Camino on Tuesday! Would love to hear any particular recommendations for places to eat along the Primitivo, as the food is always my favourite part of travel...
Glad to hear it! I've booked to stay thereOur favorite meal was at our Albergue in Samblismo, Javier is a great cook and makes his own bread.
Bueno Camino @bswanson, food is a nice way to get to know other cultures, and in particular de comunal dinners in the albergues sounds like a wonderful way to meet other pilgrims (I guess food is secondary)Starting my first Camino on Tuesday! I agree. But it sure is nice when the food is good!Bueno Camino @bswanson, food is a nice way to get to know other cultures, and in particular de comunal dinners in the albergues sounds like a wonderful way to meet other pilgrims (I guess food is secondary)
Especially on a sunny day! Bliss.I was glad I had walked around the perimeter of the walls before lunch, because after lunch I just felt like going to sit in the plaza, which is a great spot for people watching on a full stomach.
Vanesa in Berducedo and casa Manolo in Santiago. The best meals on Primitivo way (good also the communitarian dinner in Bodenaya).Starting my first Camino on Tuesday! This was one of my favorite places ever! The women who owned it were fabulous. They sponsored local Galego cultural & music groups. They closed, retired, during the pandemic. On both my Primitivos (2014 and 2019), I've enjoyed Bar Restaurante Manaia Sea Ela in A Fonsagrada. I've had late lunch, dinner and breakfast there at various times. Always lots of locals there. And they are open early.
The last time, in October 2019 I was thrilled to find they were still going strong. While having dinner there we checked the opening time (6.45am – yeah) - the following morning we were there hot on the heels (literally) of the lovely senora who opened up.
The Señora recognised us from the night before and gave us a big smile. As she unlocked the door, we followed her in and helped her put out the bar stools and chairs. She quickly made our two coffees, added two small pieces of cake, and wouldn’t take any money from us. So kind! Lovely way to start the day.
Do you have a budget or preferred cusine? There is a big variety of food and restaurants in the larger towns, less so in the small placesStarting my first Camino on Tuesday! Magnificent stay and meal here in 2019!!!!Glad to hear it! I've booked to stay there
I had a look at Paprika reviews and it looks like a fancy restaurant, a little expensive, with a outdoor patio by the wall. Now I understand your "I was treated just fine even in my hiking clothes"Not sure if anyone likes an occasional splurge, but there is a very foodie restaurant about 2 seconds from the Lugo albergue. Name is Paprica. I went to the albergue to see if a friend had arrived and she hadn’t. So I just went into the restaurant and spent several hours there in a nice outdoor patio. I was treated just fine even in my hiking clothes. I got one of their menús, and it was quite yummy. I was glad I had walked around the perimeter of the walls before lunch, because after lunch I just felt like going to sit in the plaza, which is a great spot for people watching on a full stomach.
This was also one of the highlights from my camino last year, vegetarian as well which was a welcome bonus! Our favorite meal was at our Albergue in Samblismo, Javier is a great cook and makes his own bread.
On the cheaper side ideally, and I'm most interested in authentic local cuisine or anyone making good use of local ingredientsDo you have a budget or preferred cusine? There is a big variety of food and restaurants in the larger towns, less so in the small places
