For those of us that have been around the Caminos for a bit, I am sorry to tell you a sad news. Resti, who was the first hospitalero in Castrojeriz, has died of a heart attack. He was famous for waking up pilgrims with Gregorian chants in the morning, banning, in later years, mobile phones from the albergue and, most importantly, a hospitalero that would go out of his way to help pilgrims. Rest in peace hospitalero friend and we all will see each other in the celestial albergue!

Here an old interview with Resti: https://elpais.com/diario/2004/08/3...Fgfp8ciz66j-GlaeF-15r5Yq6REDe-YP9Vh3m-xz4WNsk

It was a memorable stop, he had a wonderful cadre of friends.

I’m sure that thousands of pilgrims immediately go back to good memories when they think of Resti. I remember a big head of curly hair and a beard to match. I slept in Castrojeriz in the albergue on my first camino in 2000. We had arrived late and were put in the overflow room, which was just mattresses on the floor. Resti told us that they were left over from the Spanish Civil War, and that was quite believable. (No bed bugs, though!). Music and breakfast in the morning from this larger than life camino character. RIP.

Always a sad day when anyone associated with a camino passes on, especially one who gave of him(her) self to provide comfort for others...
