We have been working out our stages for the Camino del Mar-Camino Inglés and looking at both distances and accomodation. There is no infrastructure that we can see until one reaches Xubia (Neda/Narón) and the Camino Inglés. However there is private accomodation most of the way and the FEVE in case of need, although to-ing and fro-ing would depend on train times. So our stages look like this at present:-
Ribadeo to Reinante
Reinante to Barreiros
Barreiros to Foz
Foz to Burela
Burela to Cervo
Cervo to Xove
Xove to Esteiro/Viveiro ?
Viveiro probably FEVE to Ortegueira
Ortegueira to near Ponte Mera or
FEVE to Ponte Mera and walk to San Andrés de Teixido
Return to near Ponte Mera (taxi?)
FEVE to Xubia as there is no accomodation after Ponte Mera until well past San Andrés and no food either beyond San Andres. The distance involved is too far so that seems the best option, at least at present.
Then:-
Neda/Narón (which gives us our unbroken 100kms+) to Santiago by slow stages.

There are several places we want to take a day stop over to see around, so this will be a slow Camino :)

Terry has found some accomodation between Viveiro and Ortegueira, but along the FEVE line not the suggested walking route. This might suit us as there is nothing across the direct route.

We have also found that going forward to Cedeira from San Andres is a possibility, rather than going back which does not really appeal to us. We may then need to break the stage to Xubia by using a bus, or walk to the FEVE and take that for a few stations. Although this means taking an alternative route it keeps us moving forward and still able to complete the last 100+ kms on foot.

Increasingly our feeling is that this route is for those who have back-up, or walk it in small sections and bus to and from the day's walk. However for folk capable of doing 40kms in a day, at the Ferrol end, it might work. Stages between Ribadeo and Viveiro are manageable as is Viveiro via the coast to Ortegueira it would seem.

Vamos a ver :)

Hi Valeria
This is a route I would like to do in the future having walked the Camino Ingles a few times. We have taken the feve from Oviedo to Ferrol and stopped off at Ortegueira, staying at Hostel perla not far from the feve station, a double room cost 38€. Also the feve station in Naron is over the road from the Kensington hotel . A bit off this subject I have been looking at La Vuelta 2014 and it finishes in Santiago on 14th september but one of the stages goes from Ortegueira to La Coruna.

We had found the Hostal Perla and have it on our list, thank you. We stayed at the Kensington last time and could see the station, so if we do use the FEVE that is where we will aim for. Did you find the Perla good? Enjoy La Vuelta. We'll be posting more about the Camino del Mar as we learn more and ultimately will put more on the blog too, but that will be later in the year.

The Perla was interesting, its quite old fashioned inside but does not look much from the outside with a very large bar area, quite hard to describe, not a typical bar and a lovely old lady served us. The room was comfortable. I do not think there is much accomodati0n there and a barman in Bar Pepe recommended it and said eat at Bar Riazor. Looking forward to hear more of your planning.

Tia Valeria.
So, you are going to do a trip that includes two pilgrimage destinations: San Andrés de Teixido (Vai de morto o que non foi de vivo) and Santiago. That's a good idea.
Other places of interest in this Way, you surely know, are: As Catedrais beach, Sargadelos and Cape Estaca de Bares.

A selection of Camino Jewellery
We are looking forward to walking past As Catedrais and the rock arches, part of the reason for stopping at Reinante the first day. The others depend on exact location in relation to our walking, and also maybe time if they are a diversion. We will have to do some more planning.

The saying " A San Andrés de Teixido vai de morto o que non foi de vivo" (To San Andres goes dead who didn't go alive) has to do, as far as I know, only with people from Galicia or related to. But I'm afraid that many old members of this forum who have already done many caminos could also be involved, So, if I were them I'd go alive just in case.

Hi, Tia,

You are tempting me and Susanna with your posts. We are planning to walk Bilbao to Ponferrada on the Camino Olvidado, and then in Ponferrada we are thinking we will either continue on the Invierno to Santiago or hop on a bus up to Ribadeo and walk the Camino del Mar into Santiago. No decisions yet, since we have almost 4 months, but it's fun to read about the Camino del Mar.

Did you find a list of accommodations, or has it been a matter of hunting them down one by one? When you say "no accommodation until well past San Andrés", for instance, what do you mean? If it's anything like the Olvidado, there aren't a lot of choices on many of the segments, so some advance planning is necessary, at least a compilation of the options. The website is very helpful and it sounds like there is good marking, though I think you observed somewhere on the forum that a lot of these stages are designed for drop off and pick up by bus for local people, not for people needing to sleep where they stop walking every day. Thanks, Tia. Laurie

Hola Laurie, We have revised part of the route a little as a diversion will take us past accomodation in a couple of places. So far our research has been web based - we'll report back when we know what it is like.
We will be walking in the holiday season so along the coast we will be booking ahead as far as possible.
Our information is that there is no accomodation after the area around Ponte Mera and no food either after San Andrés (food there) until you reach nearly into Xubia. It is possible to take a taxi to Cedeira (near Porte de Cabo) where there is accomodation etc and return to the route next day.
We are still working on this.

We have just been told by the doctor that I should defer our planned Camino,:(, so it looks like it will be 2015 before we walk.

I'm sorry you've had to delay the camino one year. We had to cancel last year for medical reasons as well. Brighter days ahead, and the camino will wait for you!
Be well..
