Camino Frances (2019)
Hey folks,

I'm in Pamplona and trying to start the Camino on Monday, but I ran into a snag. I assumed there would be buses headed to SJPdP from Pamplona, but I've had no luck finding any. I assume it's because the winter is a slow season.
Anyone know of any alternative means of getting there? If not, I think I'll walk it...I came all the way from Texas...don't want to leave Spain without doing the full stretch.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Have you considered hitching? No joke.

From Pamplona either walk along the camino path which follows the Arga river into Zubiri or walk on the right side verges of the N135. . Or you might follow the paved bi ycle/walking route from the Puente de La Magdalena near the cathedral to where it meets the N135 highway near Zabaldica At any junction with the highway N135 try hitching

Many logging trucks and suppliers vans take this route. At Zubiri follow the N145 which goes up to/through Roncesvalles and Valcarlos. From Valcarlos continue on the road to SJPdP. Do not walk into the woods in the snow. Stay on the cleared roadside verges.

Good luck and Buen camino![

Thanks for the suggestion. I've decided to make the hike from Pamplona to SJPdP if nothing turns up, but I'll definitely give hitching a shot. Is a thumb out the universal "I need a lift" symbol?

Thumb is not universal and I think can be offensive in some countries. Sorry, I don't know about Spain.

You missed the Tue/Fri bus to Valcarlos and Arneguy from PLM Autocares. Tommorow take the daily (except Sunday and holidays) Artieda Autocares bus to Roncevalles.

Or call Taxi San Fermin taxipamplona.com (or .es) They do taxi shares and may already have someone ready to share. If not shared it costs about 100 euros to SJPdP. You would save 2 or 3 days food and lodging costs over walking so the taxi fare might be considered cheaper

Thanks so much! That'll shave off a good deal of time!

I agree with what @mspath says. Even as a single woman I would try to hitch. On all the camino trails the locals can see that you are a pilgrim trying to get from A to B, and will give you a lift. It has been my Plan B on several occasions and I always got a lift quickly and never had a problem. And, yes, just stick your thumb out.

There is a bus from Pamplona to Hendaye (France) train station after a train to Bayonne and other train from Bayonne to SJPP
