Time of past OR future Camino
frances 2021
I'm trying to make a hotel reservation for one night, the last week in April, in Roncevalles. Various booking services indicate that there are no hotel rooms available. This seems odd as the last week in April is not a real busy time for the camino. My suspicion is that the few hotels in Roncevalles are holding rooms in blocks for tour companies, and that the rooms will be released to the public if not purchased by the tour companies. Any thoughts from the forum? Thanks.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
I have no idea - have you emialed them directly? They did take several days to get back to my when I tried (successfully) to make reservations last month. good luck

Hotels only release some of their rooms to booking services like booking.com, and sometimes they don't do so until after the start of the season. The best way to find out about availability is to contact the hotel directly. Contact details for the hotels in Roncesvalles (note there is an S in the middle of the name):

La Posada: http://laposada.roncesvalles.es/contacto/ (there is also an email address at the foot of the page)

Hotel Roncesvalles: http://www.hotelroncesvalles.com/#contacto.html

Casa Sabina: http://casasabina.roncesvalles.es/contacto/ (note email address also at foot of page)

And there's the albergue of course, contact details at http://www.alberguederoncesvalles.com/contacto.php

Hope this helps! If it's any help, I've stayed at both Hotel Roncesvalles and La Posada, and would recommend both of them.

Buen Camino!

Yes - go direct. Booking companies often sell out of their allocation but it doesn't mean there are none left.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
I too recommend the Posada

Your comment about holidays season not quite right. The first of May is a national holiday in France & Spain (May Day) so it may be that the hotels have more than a few guests making it a 4 day long weekend!!, Best of luck! Of course if you do get into Posada you can relive one of the scenes from "The Way" !

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
The last weekend of April is also the May Day holiday, very popular time for French and Spanish tourists/trekkers.
The albergue in Roncevalles has a website and it is easy to make a reservation there. You can go down the road to Burgette and Espinal for other hotels.
