Sahagun Street Market

Time of past OR future Camino
First one in 1977 by train. Many since then by foot. Next one ASAP.
My tentative 2019 walk-the-Camino scheme puts me in Sahagun on the last Saturday in September.... and I'm hoping to find there a lively street market, just as I did in 2015.

Can anyone confirm that Saturday is the day for the Sahagun street market? Sure hope so!

(Facinating town, btw, and worthy of more time than most peregrinos evidently give it!)

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

I thought it interesting too, but only spent the evening. I saw the bull-ring, btw.

Can't help you on this one but if there is a market a-n-y-w-h-e-r-e along the Camino you will find me there. Among the textiles from China, the pots and pans, the produce cheese and meats there is always something fascinating. Also a chance to ditch that shirt that you have been wearing for the last two weeks, time maybe to replace unmentionables or socks, a pair of shorts. I also always peek into the back of those little vans disturbing the peaceful countryside with their incessant horn blasting away - might be super fresh bread, fresh vegetables and fruit, or even fish on ice - always a treat.

Finding a market along the way is fun. It is interesting to see all those things are being sold, but other than eating and drinking, you really don't want to buy anything because whatever you buy will increase the weight and take up precious space in your backpack -- and you have to carry it all the way.

Yes! Saturday is Market Day in Sahagún. It is fairly large and varied. I spent a quincena en Bercianos as hospitalera and made sure to get to the market on Saturday for a rare get a way! Enjoy!

Huzzah! I just noticed that my 2017 Wise Pilgrim Guide to the CF does identify a number of town market days!

I won't need to change my plans at all (yes, I'm one of those people) in order to enjoy market days in Navarette, Carrion and Sahagun! That is, if I can arrive before the markets shut down for day! Which I am assuming they will do by mid-afternoon.... Is my assumption correct?

I love the markets too, of course I only buy things that are edible, but I like the festive atmosphere as they being people out

I bought three pair of merino wool socks for a very reasonable price at the street market in Sahagun and would do the same again, if I could find them. Lightweight items of use on the camino are worth buying wherever I can find them. But then of course I was heading to Madrid on the train from Sahagun, and home to Canada, so I didn't have to carry them far.
