Any tips for walking from Sahagún to Santiago in March?

I've read all posts with March in the title and imagine that it will be similar to my late November walk from Pamplona to Sahagún in terms of what is open, but I'd love to read any additional thoughts.

I assume it will be wet, but at least the days will be longer!

I'm also planning to shortcut from Mansilla de las Mulas to Villar de Mazarife, if anyone has tips on that route (I've lived in León and am short on time, so seems like a good way to save some time and pavement). The Wikiloc looks pretty straightforward.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Hola @Excursionista Unless you are really keen on walking the senda (camino beside the road from Sahagun to Bercianos) may I suggest you consider taking to old Roman Road to Calzadilla,. It eventually arrives at either Regiegos or Mansilla. You could do it as a very long day or two moderate days. I walked in May 2017, it was quiet with virtually no cars or pilgrims.
As for your "short cut", sorry no info. Maybe take a bus from Leon to La Virgin Del Camino and then resume your walking. Buen Camino.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

Definitely -- I had my eye on the Roman road and am very happy to have a personal recommendation! :)

Whether it's one day or two will mostly depend on what time I get to Sahagún.

I walked Bercianos to Mansilla Nov 30 this year. Our crew wanted to go to Calzadilla as has been previously suggested but we couldn't confirm if the one albergue was open. It was too risky to do for such a lone stop before Manzilla. Covid and winter related limitation.

My buddy took the route to Villar de Mazarife but ended up walking to Villadangos because the donativo there was closed. For these two stops the reasoning may be due to scheduling/time of year but judging by how limited our options this late in the year, I expect things may be similar in March. Who knows what Omicron will do.

It seems that hardy winter pilgrims during the pandemic seem to rely on many resources for lodging. I've personally used at least 4 websites + 2 apps in conjunction with each other. Calling is the best way....if one responds.

Happy to share more if you like.
