When you leave Saint-Romain-de-Surieu, the GR65 and the Camino signposting will take you up a hill, follow a sealed road, turn left into the forest, and then lead you to a ford crossing the river Limone.
The drawback is that this is mostly on a sealed road with little shade. The ford crossing is not an issue if it hasn't been raining.
There is an alternative:
at the crossroads with a sign showing Assieu and Le Canard to the left, ignore the Camino sign with the cross, follow the road, cross the bridge over the river Limone, and at the second turn, take the forest trail to the right. It runs parallel to the 'official' trail.
The drawback is that if it has been raining in previous days, the path could be muddy. The advantages are that there is nearly no bitumen, and more shade.
