Leaving Madrid it's easy and comfortable to get on the Camino.
You can start walking where you wish or go in Metro to the station of Montecarmelo and walk on a bike path that will put you in Tres Cantos in two hours.
Everything is well marked and without problem. In Tres Cantos the municipal government offers lodging to pilgrims in a big albergue.
Here's the video, hope you like it.

Hi, Macarena,
I liked the video a lot, and I encourage anyone contemplating the Camino de Madrid to watch it. It shows how quick and easy the exit from Madrid is. After the hospital Ramon y Cajal, you're in the country, on your way, with the Madrid skyline behind you. You can take the train to Tres Cantos, but this is really a pretty nice exit from a huge city and has few of the industrial suburb horrors you see on many other caminos.
Buen camino, Laurie

In my slideshow, "Camino de Santiago from Madrid 2012 part 1 Madrid- Segovia" in youtube after 33 seconds you can see a list of metros and streets if you like to start from Puerta del Sol.

Thanks Macarena for this post and video. My partner and I will set out from Madrid bound for Santiago on Nov.4. You have eased my mind about exiting Madrid and finding the albergue in Tres Cantos. I think we will take the metro as you suggest and now it will easy to find. Rosatonio

Beware that in the Albergue in Tres Cantos they make you leave by 6.30 am! :?

Appart from that, have a great trip, I just finished it and really enjoyed it :)
