San Pedro de las Duenas

Time of past OR future Camino
First one in 1977 by train. Many since then by foot. Next one ASAP.
5 km south of Sahagun is the Romanesque Monastery of San Pedro de las Duenas. Brother Brierley describes it as "a gem of a national monument [including] a 12th century church with an impressive crucifix." A community of Benedictine Sisters is still in residence there, and may even run some sort of hospedaria! ... Brierley goes on to say "not particularly recommended (unless you have specific interest)..." Well, I do -- just the sort of place I like! -- but I've never talked with anyone who's actually been there!

Any Romanesque fanciers out there who can tell me whether it's worth the extra walk? And is there really a hospedaria?

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Like you I have not yet visited but these photos look great!

That's in Rebecca's back yard. I bet she knows heaps about the place.

It looks lovely.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Transport luggage-passengers.
From airports to SJPP
Luggage from SJPP to Roncevalles
Just another confirmation of the hospedería.

UPDATE: Just called the monastery, there is no more hospederia. You can visit the church, but they have closed the accommodations. So sad.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
I will be walking onto Sahagun from Terredillos de los Templarios on a Saturday, arriving fairly early in the day. It's gonna be a tough choice: a sidetrip to San Pedro de las Duenas (probably by taxi) or soaking up the famous Sahagun Saturday street market.

Opted for the Sahagun Saturday street market and sipping wine on the Plaza Mayor.

Next time, if there is a next time....

I have a hunch it's worth the detour.
