San Sebastian to SJPP

Camino de Frances
I've had a search and can only find a 3 year old thread so checking to see if there are any updates.

Pre Camino I am doing a road trip with my wife and daughter in our camper. They will leave me in San Sebastian on the 15th April. I planned to spend 2 nights there then head to SJPP on the 17th April with the 18th April being my first Camino day.

Does anyone have any advice on the San Sebastian to SJPP route? I've just got a taxi quote which was pretty hefty at 280Euros

Other routes seem to be

Train to Irun then Taxi
Bus to Pampalona / Bus to SJPP

Leftfield would be to start at San Sebastian but my 'completist' nature will not allow this and I have accommodation sorted in SJPP, Orrison and Roncevalles so really need to start at SJPP.

Any help appreciated.

Simon

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

€83,-
Bus to Bayonne, train/bus the SJPdP or bus to Biarritz airport and Express Bourricot to SJPdP

Take the local Euskotren from San Sebastian to Hendaye. Then SNCF trains from Hendaye to Bayonne and Bayonne to SJPDP. Unless you need to make the journey very fast there is no need for taxis.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Transport luggage-passengers.
From airports to SJPP
Luggage from SJPP to Roncevalles
Thank you @Bradypus & @biarritzdon really helpful. I can actually see this route based on your suggestion.

SS to Bayonne 09.50 / 11.10
Bayonne to SJPP 11.24 / 12.41

One last question, do you think these will need to be pre booked, I am guessing local trains will be just bought on the day, my only worry is its easter Weekend

There is no reservation system for Euskotren or the SNCF local services. Just buy your ticket at the station.

PS. On one occasion when the train from Bayonne was very overcrowded SNCF paid for taxis to take me and 14 others to SJPDP.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
