In "The Pilgrim Route to Compostela" translated from "Le Chemin de Saint Jacques de Compostelle" (1989) by Georges Bernès, the entry for Belorado says that there is "a fine figure of Christ between the two robbers, a fine work in ivory" in the church of Santa María de Belorado. When I visited the church in 2003 I was told that the work was kept in a convent nearby, presumably the convent of Santa María de Bretonera of the Poor Clares. When I went to the convent I was told that the work could not be seen except on Good Friday, when it was paraded around the town. I was told this on the Saturday after Good Friday. I have googled in English and in Spanish but I have not found any reference to this "fine work".
Have you heard of this work? Have you seen it? Do you have a photo of it?

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

Bert45,
Have you read the Monasterio de Santa Clara, Belorado, web page ?
Perhaps you might write them for a photo reference of their ivory.

Have you Googled "viernes santo semana santa Belorado" for possible views of past processions? You can watch "Jueves Santo. Procesión del Encuentro de Belorado, Burgos" on YouTube here

Good luck in your search.

Thanks, mspath. I have just contacted the monastery. I skimmed through the video, but did not see the ivory carving. It's amazing what a village with a population of less than 2,000 can do. I'm still a bit surprised at how little there is on the internet about this carving (i.e. nothing).

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
