I’m so sorry to hear this Mario. To add a bit of history, Mario met up with several caminho junkies in Lisbon in 2014 (see this thread). Mario was really the prime mover here, and he organized the hostel owners along the stages from Lisbon to Porto to help with “pick and drop” car assistance for those who wanted to walk it all but break up long stages with a ride up or back. He helped a lot with the “Shorter stages from Lisbon” document to encourage others to walk. His Santarem Hostel was the only place in Santarem at that time and a well- loved stop that usually included guitar music, I was told!

Over the years, Mario has generously helped many pilgrims and has always been a good friend to us all. Wishing you all the best in the future, Mario, and many thanks. Bom Caminho, Laurie

Yes, I am sorry to hear this Mario, thank you so much for all you have done for us over the years.

I loved staying in the Santarem Hostel. And the churches in that town are something else! Wonderful.

That is sad news. I appreciated your support when I stayed earlier this year. It is a shame it has turned out thus.

I’m very sorry to hear this, Mario. Caroline and I stayed with you in 2015 and loved it. I hope a solution can be found to avoid closing.

Hello everybody.
I regret to inform you that due to the death of the Landlady, the heirs decided to sell the building and not renew the lease.
Due to this unfortunate situation, we are forced to close the Hostel in December 2022.

I am so sorry to hear that you have to close. I stayed a few years ago. It was a lovely and wonderfully relaxing place, to stay after a very long hot day. Wishing you all the best in these uncertain times.

Mario, best wishes to you and your future endeavors. I thank you personally for your kind guidance this past year during the heat of August. You will be missed. Suzanne
