Santiago back to the UK

Time of past OR future Camino
2019
Dear all,

We plan to arrive (hopefully) in SDC on 25th October. We would then like to fly home from there to the UK, preferably anywhere south of (but including) Birmingham. I know that there is a flight from Santiago to Stansted on the 26th and also on 29th. Booking the 26th seems like too much of a constriction but equally if we do arrive on 25th we don't want to hang around for 4 days waiting for a flight.
What would you recommend as the most efficient way of getting back (via train to airport or similar?) preferably leaving on Sunday 27th.

Thanks and Buen Camino!

Patrick

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Hi, I live near Bordeaux and I find getting home often a bit of a conundrum.

I use Rome2Rio to search for various options. Usually for flights home I have to fly via Madrid or Barcelona... there is also a slow daily train that gets you to the northern coast at Irun... and I’ve even found BlaBla cars offering rides.

There are flights from Bilboa and the Ferry from Santander?

I just create a list of the various options.

I hope this helps with your planning

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
You could also consider flying from A Coruna or Vigo as an alternative to SCQ. Both fairly cheap and reasonably easy to reach from Santiago. I like to fly from A Coruna because I love the town and flights from there go to Heathrow rather than Stansted - a place I like to avoid! I prefer kayak.co.uk as a flight search engine and it gives you the option to include all three airports in your search and up to 3 days either side of your stated date.

As an alternative do your connections in Spain. We flew SdC to Malaga (with Ryanair) which has direct flights to our local UK airport.

Hi, you can fly daily from Santiago, via Madrid, to Heathrow or Gatwick on Iberian for a reasonable fare. I flew Santiago (at 13:20) to Heathrow (arriving 17:20), which was perfect. But when I try putting Sunday 27 Oct in for a price on their website it is coming out 6 times more expensive than, say, Friday 25 Oct. An option you might want to look at though . . .

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
