I agree. I did what you plan. I walked the Camino France alone in 2007, and took a break and went to Santo Domingo de Silos. You just need one days break. As you can see on the thread, you go to Silos by bus from Burgos in the afternoon, stay a whole day, and take the bus back to Burgos early next morning and continue your walking. There are several small (and at least in 2007 cheap) hostales there, and it is a small place. Most of this you can find on MMs thread.
I wanted to comment the singing, since you mention that. I have written criticism from people visiting the place, that the singing was not what they had expected from having heard CDs. (The criticism was not on this forum.) What we have to remember is that when we go there, we go to a monastery to take part in their worship, their prayer service. They are not singing to give a public a concert. That is an important difference. To me, being there on several prayer services and staying a quiet hour in the beautiful cloister, the day in Silos gave me some of my best memories to bring with me back home. Just remember: You do not go there to hear concerts. Bjørg
