This thread will be pinned to the top of the Via de la Plata forum. (You can find the list of all route forums by clicking on the Casa Ivar logo at the top of this page.) All threads are listed in each forum with newest ones first. However, you might find that the following links are useful for finding particular information. These links collect tagged threads exclusively in the Via de la Plata and Camino Sanabrés forum. They are updated in the future every time you use them.

Moderator picks - Including some very detailed stage-by-stage planning threads. In fact the VDLP thread created in 2020 during the pandemic has over 500 posts (nicely organized from south to north) that cover just about any feature you might find on the whole route - art, architecture, fiestas, hazards, landmarks and route variants. Hundreds of hours of research by many forum members went into it and the other thread covering the Sanabres alone!

Art and architecture on the VDLP

Fiestas, holidays and markets

Hazards - Traffic, dogs, river crossing, steep slopes, etc.

Landmarks - Interpreting the word broadly! Might even include the famous spring wildflowers.

LIVE from the Camino - Recent threads written by the pilgrims at the time of walking, so check the dates!

Side trips and route variants - This includes some advice on how to work around a few stages that might otherwise be too long for some people.

Via Augusta - There is a separate forum sections for this route, which starts in Cadiz and then joins the VDLP in Seville.

Feel free to let me know if you find other threads that should be tagged so they will appear in these collections!

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
I know that @C clearly isn’t doing this for fame or fortune, but still I think forum members should know that this tagging project is almost totally her work. The idea for using tags to generate the “top Vdlp” (or any other camino potentially) posts involved a ton of work. The links in this post are dynamic — that is, they generate a search for all the posts with the tags that have been specified. That means that as new threads are added to the forum, once they are tagged, they will be recoverable by these links. So no updating for the links is needed.

A stroke of brilliance, IMO, and one I am a grateful beneficiary of.

I have edited my first post to add some detail about that 2020 virtual planning thread - it really is a treasure trove of information. Since we can only tag threads and not individual posts, many great bits of information are buried within more general threads.

I am doing some searching through the forum and tagging more threads (this is a fun project), so check those links afresh, from time to time.

If you have particular questions about something - for example what is there to do on a rest day in Merida, or what Roman ruins can be found along the route, etc., feel free to start a new thread with that question. Then we can tag it appropriately and it will appear in the tag collection.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

As Laurie says, this is most likely tons of work so it's nice to hear that you actually consider it a fun project...thanks so much for all you are doing.😊

Muchas muchas gracias @C clearly and all who have contributed to this. When we can finally travel again (from Australia) the Via de la Plata and Sanabres will be our next path. 🎒🤞🙏
