Greetings from Jerusalem!
Semana Santa in Spain lasts for ten days, beginning on Viernes de Dolores March 30 and finishing on Domingo de la Resurrección - what the English-speaking world calls 'Easter Sunday'. A lovely time to be on the Camino, Springtime and flowers, processions and special masses, great comradeship - however - for those planning to begin during Holy Week be forewarned! Public transportation also celebrates Holy Week and schedules become erratic sometimes approaching non-existent, quiet villages become busy cultural centers swarming with tourists, worshippers, and families coming to visit or to return spinster aunts or aged mothers, restaurants are full and private lodging booked by others well in advance. It is a wonderful experience and should not be missed, a special Spanish experience which is best enjoyed if one is somewhat aware of the uncertainties envolved and has a pocket full of patience.
