And likely desperately needed! They might even paint the place and provide good mattresses, but am optimist.
Anyway, I came across two lost pilgrims who had journeyed from Le Puy yesterday (Hi Bruno and Marcel!) and they told me that the Seminario, the only "refugio" actually in Compostela was closed. I could hardly believe it so went to check for myself. Yep! Until about the 15th of March, you guys are on your own! There is always the Monte de Gozo Albergue, but....what a monstrosity it is, and too far away anyway.
There are cheapy places to stay. Some, as I found out, are a good place to commit suicide (if you want to know the one I ran away from, send me a PM.) I am staying at the Hostal Alameda which is WONDERFUL, and a stone´s throw from the Cathedral. Lovely people too; Ana and Antonio. The number if you are interested is 981 588 100 and it´s on the Rua San Clemente just across from the Parque de Santa Susanna and central to everything in the old town. I might move in permanently! (Am doing research for second part of Pilgrimage to Heresy and so wish I didn´t have to go back to my "real life" See http://www.headstartcentres.org if you are interested!) It´s 22 Euros single with bath, and yes, you can find cheaper. But why? You deserve this!
Another place to recommend is the Terra Nova Cafe, where I am at present, which is on Rua de Padron in front of the Police Station, and just around the corner (up the hill) from The Alameda (views of Cathedral optional). Again, nice people, internet access free, and good coffee!
Buen Camino Todos!
