Hi all,

I passed this Shikoku 88 temple marker on the outskirts of Sarria. Had to do a double take!

Does anyone have a contact name, number , website etc for the association in Spain, or indeed Japan, that is working together ? I’d like to make contact.

My dream is to buy an akiya house in Shikoku - maybe Kochi prefecture, and open an albergue style accommodation for pilgrims. Maybe the association can assist.

The Shikoku - Camino twinning is an official project at provincial government level. I don't know of any voluntary association in Spain which maintains the link. There are occasional special events sponsored by various organisations. In 2017 the Museum of Pilgrimage in Santiago held an exhibition about Shikoku. Perhaps one of the sponsors of the exhibition could be helpful?

This brings back memories. I was in Japan 1962, as a young sailor! I will say no more as the memories are good ones. Peace and good luck with your venture.

Samarkand.

This article mentions that the memorial stone was erected by the Takamatsu City branch of the Shikoku Pilgrimage Friendship Association. (高松市の四国遍路友の会).

Website of the assoc. does not look very active:

If you're looking for Akiya, I think you'll need to spend time in Shikoku looking at properties.

My partner is Japanese and we walked the 88 Temple and Kumano Kodo pilgrimages in 2019. We just moved to Muxia at the end of the Camino. Setting up a Global Pilgrim House. I have 20 canvas print photos of the Japanese pilgrimages on the wall along with other global pilgrimages. Also have guidebooks of the 88 Temple and other global pilgrimages you are welcome to stop in for a visit to get more info on Shikoku if you make it to Muxia. Just contact us through www.globalpilgrim.net

There are others. There is a similar marker on a small triangle of grass as you exit Molinaseca.

The other that we have seen is in Japan on Shikoku. I attach two pictures of that one. We stayed in a zenkonyado just across from the marker and asked our host about it. He explained that a few years previously a delegation including the Mayor of Molinaseca had come to Japan to celebrate the linking of the Shikoku 88 and the Camino. He dug out photos to prove it. I seem to recall the location was 88kms from the final temple as per the markings.

2015 we walked part of Shikoku. Only managed 38 temples. They were having a heat wave in October.
The book I used was Shikoku Japan 88 Route Guide, by Buyodo Co. Ltd.
In the back they have listed:
Shikoku Tourism - www.tourismshikoku.org
Also: www.shikokuhenrotrail.com
Hope this helps
