Silos side trip

I am planning a side trip to the Silos monestary this May. Can anyone give me a heads up on the best place to stay; restaurants, etc. Has anyone ever stayed in the monastery itself?

The 9th edition the Lightfoot Guide will let you complete the journey your way.
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Only males can stay in the monastery and you should book a room in advance.
Silos is a tiny place - just a hamlet really but has about 4 hotels, a great big monastery and a beautiful, unadorned church where the monks conduct mass in Gregorian Chant.
You can stay in the expensive Hotel Santo Domingo de Silos or the cheaper Hostal Santo Domingo de Silos-Hostal which is the same stablishment, just different prices, which is just across the way from the Cathedral. http://www.hotelsantodomingodesilos.com. Our double room was 36 euro.
They have a very popular family run restaurant. I think there are only two other places to eat.
Enjoy!

Hi there, I just read that you were doing a side trip to Silos. It would be wonderful to hear the Monks chant. Do you know how to get to Silos from the El Camino? I am thinking of taking that little side trip myself.
Thanks

The best way is to take the evening bus from Burgos, stay two nights and return on the second morning.

The mass times are as follows (check them when you get there)

Canto gregoriano
LAUDES A las 7,30 h. diario. 8 h. Domingo
MISA A las 9,00 h. diario. 12 h. Domingos y Festivos
VISPERAS A las 19,00 h. todos los días.
COMPLETAS A las 21,30 h. diario.
