SJPDP to Lourdes

I plan to walk the pilgrim way from Saint Jean Pied de Port to Lourdes as described in www. compostelle.fr. I´ll be happy to get some information about that way. Since I am 69 years old I walk about 20 most 25 km in a day. Is the walk very demanding? Can I find small hotels to stay in all along the way? I have had difficulties to find any in Saint Just Ibarre and Asson. Is September a good month to do the walk in?

Hello Len!

I will do that way but the other way around (and starting at the Mediteranean) : Narbonne - Lourdes - Saint-Jean; and during summertime.

On the direction towards Compostella, it seems well waymarked.
This part (closer to the Pyrenees) is described as a bit more demanding, but more than doable.
There seem to be enough sleeping possibilities, although sometimes you might have to go to a hotel, "pension" or bed and breakfast
And somewhere I read that September is a good choice...

In 2009 the only accommodation in Asson was a room above a schoolhouse with two double bunks, a small kitchenette and a shower and toilet. There was no other accommodation in the little town. We had booked the room by email but when we arrived they had double booked and had given it to a couple.
They gave us mattresses and a camp bed and allowed us to sleep in the school foyer downstairs.
