The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
ofer ofer,

Officially the Napoleon route over the mountain will be closed until April 1, 2016.

However when you arrive in SJPdP do go directly to the Pilgrims office at 39 rue de la Citadelle. They can provide you with up to date camino conditions, Pilgrim Passport/Credential and on site lodging assistance.

If the Napoleon route is blocked you might consider walking the ValCarlos alternate up to Roncesvalles. That is the way I have always gone even in fine weather!

Good luck and Buen camino!

Do NOT second guess the pilgrim's office advice. If they advise taking the Valcarlos route, or if they advise taking the road instead of the path down to Roncevalles, or if they advise you to stand on your head and do the polka . . . For your own good, please do it.

New Original Camino Gear Designed Especially with The Modern Peregrino In Mind!
mspath and koilife know whereof they speak! The Vacarlos route is gorgeous and you end up at the same place (at Roncesvalles). Oen is not better or more real than the other. ;)
So even if there is snow, never mind--there will be a way to walk and a good one.
