VdlP September/October 2016
Hi, I will be walking the VdlP in September/October and can't really decide whether I should buy a lightweight sleeping bag. As I'm starting in hot weather, I would think a (fleece) liner would be enough? Aren't there blankets in every albergue?

Thanks in advance,
Susan

There are not blankets in every albergue and some that are in use may be quite grubby. A simple bag liner is a good lightweight way to have your own 'clean' bedding during the warmer months. The liner plus a bag would be a good combo in cooler months. Walking late autumn/winter I use such a combo plus wearing tights and a long sleeve top.

Hi, @susan76 , If you follow this link https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/tags/sleeping-bag/ you will find much debate and even the occasional helpful suggestion. However, its an unanswerable question, or rather the answer is yours to conclude. Much depends on whether you are a 'hot' or 'cold' sleeper. Whether you are comfortable, on a cold night, sleeping in most of your day clothes or more likely to be lying on top of your sleeping bag rather than in it on a warm and humid night. How do you sleep at home? Under the duvet or on top?

If you want to check average night-time temperatures along the VdlP in autumn have a look at http://www.aemet.es/es/serviciosclimaticos/datosclimatologicos

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
Just back from the vdlp and unseasonably chilly weather. I had a very light down bag and a liner. I didn't use the liner that often but I was glad to have it when things did feel a bit grubby. If I could only take one, I would take the bag. But I was glad to have both. Some of the old buildings are very cold at night - though in September that might be welcomed!

It’s not so much in the south but as you head towards Galicia in October it may be quite chilly and many of the albergues there hve no blankets. Remember you’re going against the weather.

I'm going to be walking late August through September, and what I have settled on is a silk liner and this 6.9 ounce/197 gram Montbell down blanket. It's pretty small, just sort of lap throw size, but does cover my body. I'm hoping that it will add just that little bit of added warmth that I might need. If you want something more full sized, they have a more full size down blanket that you can use as a sleeping bag. It only weight 12 ounces/340 grams.

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
Nice weight, highish price. I always use a summer, down to ~ 10C sleeping bag that weights around 700g, but costs less. I do prefer a proper sleeping bag against a multi-use albergue blanket and a thin liner. Buen Camino, SY

Hola, I gearing up to start my 1st CdS and have seen people recommended sleeping bag liners to protect against bed bugs. Do these help or is it a myth? Should I add the extra weight of bringing one?
