Sleeping bag necessary in late Aug - early Sept?

My daughter and I are very excited to be starting our first (hopefully first of many!) in Astorga on 8/23. We are planning to stay at albergues along the way. Are sleeping bags necessary at this time of the year or should we just bring sleeping bag liners? Also, do you recommend waterproof hiking boots or trail running shoes? Any advice would be much appreciated! -- First timer

You probably will be Ok with a liner. However, if you plan to stay at elevations, or just for evenings, make sure to have a soft jacket.You can always layer at night if it gets chilly.

Suggest trail runners. Waterproof hiking boots are unnecessary for your trip. In addition suggest you do not purchase waterproof trail runners. They tend to hold the heat in...and add to the possibility of blisters. Most Trail runners will dry by the next morning..especially in the summer months.

Have a great Camino. You will be walking some very scenic parts of the CF!

August is going to be warm to hot and busy. Recommend you take a sleeping liner and low top running shoes. Most alburge's have blankets should it be necessary.

Extremely happy with the performance of my waterproof trail runners last fall from SJPdP to Fisterra/Muxia. So happy that I’ll be using same shoe next year as will my fiancée. (Salmon XA Pro)

If you sleep hot a liner is ok.

September can have chiily mornings and nights. Take a lighweight bag if you sleep cold.

We started last year on September 10th and traveled into October without the need for a sleeping bag, using only a sleeping sheet. Blankets always available in the albergues we stayed in. Enjoy what was for us a fantastic experience.
