Sleeping sheet or light weight sleeping bag?

Time of past OR future Camino
Starting from SJPdP on May 26th. My first.
Dear pilgrims, I am starting from SJPdP on May 26th and aim to finish in Santiago July 1st. I have gone through my backpack enough times I have lost count. The item I have not resolved yet is the "sleeping sheet" versus the "light sleeping bag". they are 1lb in difference in weight. what would you recommend? I will primarily stay in Albergues.

Thank you,

Luis

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

If what you mean by "sleeping sheet" is a sleeping bag liner, I recommend that as opposed to a sleeping bag for a CF that runs from Late May to June.
Almost all the albergues I stayed in had blankets, so you can use that to supplement the liner.
That's just me, though. We all are different in our sleep comfort necessities.

Yes, that is what I meant Mark. Thank you for your advice.

Some places will be almost unbearably hot at night. The places that are cool/cold will have blankets (you may have to ask; they may go into storage after about April). I always save the weight...

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
I bring a silk liner - 5 ounces, and a 7 ounce down blanket. It's not big, but keeps me warm when tucked into the silk liner. I wouldn't want to touch some of the blankets that I saw in albergues, though some of them looked just fine.

I had the same question and, because I am a cold sleeper, I knew the liner would not be enough in mid-May when I am going. So, I found a $28 down throw from Eddie Bauer on Amazon...13 oz. I tried it last night (still chilly here in Western Mass., and it was so warm and cozy, but not HOT.

Buen Camino,
Sue

That's true. The albergue sleeping quarters are all different (no two are alike and too many variables with all of them to put a standard experience in one), and some are more confined and less ventilated than others and that combined with several pilgrims in there at night, can get pretty stuffy, humid and warm. I've actually woken up in the middle of the night in an albergue and found the quarters so stuffy and warm I grabbed my bag liner and went out to a common area and slept there the rest of the night.
I suppose it's a trade off. Carry the liner knowing that there might be a couple of nights you sleep chilly, or carry the bag knowing there will be nights you won't need it at all and it may be unnecessary weight hauled around.
No way to predict or know exactly which is the best choice. It's all good though. Nobody has ever died in an albergue from sleeping chilly, ha ha.

Save as much weight as possible every ounce of weight can be felt on those long days! I did my first Camino Frances from SJPDP to Santiago in mid August to mid September 2016 and the only albergue I felt cold and needed to zip the sleeping bag up was in Roncesvalles because it was such a large building with windows open. Everywhere else was far too hot to zip up the sleeping bag. This time when I start in June I will just bring a sleeping bag liner.

can i ask i'm going in october through to beginning of october. a liner or a bag?

Definitely a sleeping bag. October can be cold especially if there are not enough people in the albergue to help heat the room.

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Our Atmospheric H30 poncho offers lightness and waterproofness. Easily compressible and made with our Waterproof fabric, its heat-sealed interior seams guarantee its waterproofness. Includes carrying bag.

€60,-
Sorry it should of said September to beginning of October sorry
In that case there is no clear answer. It will depend on the weather you get, and your preferences. You should be able to layer up in your clothes adequately, anyway, if you bring the right things and remember to wear them to bed or have them handy. Having said that, I would probably still take a summer-weight sleeping bag.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

€149,-

I would and do carry a sleeping bag September/October every year. I have always needed one in Galicia even in early October and my one pound bag is not enough so I am always looking for a blanket too. Early September a one pound sleeping bag is sometimes too much. I am walking this year from August 30 through October 15th and am taking a sleeping bag again.

I agree with Mark - just a sleeping sheet.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

I am in Burgos now having walked last 11 days. So far only needed my down quilt twice. But I am glad I had it when I needed it.
Keep in mind Weather changes quick and dramatically. Sleeping situations are very different night to night.

BTW. - - The Camino is great. You will like it.
