I always take a book to read while on the Camino "Galicia: A Concise History" by Sharif Gemie was one "The Problem of Unbelief in the Sixteenth Century" by Lucien Febvre was another. Both highly recommended but both requring concentration and focus, now looking for something lighter since this will be a Camino of shorter duration. I am considering "A Pilgrim in Spain" by Cristopher Howse afraid to give it a good look since I would probably finish it before I leave. Has anyone read the book? Does anyone have a different option? Would welcome any contribution.

It's a wonderful book. I read it in hospital and found it unputdownable. I also follow Christopher Howse on Twitter where he is @BeardyHowse and us interesting and amusing in equal measure.

One book you might consider is "Pilgrimage: An Image of Mediaeval Religion", by Jonathan Sumption. It is a excellent scholarly work on the history of pilgrimage from the beginning of Christianity until the end of the fifteenth century. It is an older work published in 1975, but it is a wonderful introduction to the topic. The link I provided shows some of his other works on this same topic carried by Amazon.
