I think any pilgrim with the intention of gazing on the Portico will be awfully disappointed. You can't put your fingers into the tree of Jesse (they are renovating it which probably means they'll fill the holes with cement - make 'em all nice and smooth like), you can't knock yourself out on Master Mateo's head (so no extra knowledge for you) and finally not only can you not get to see the Portico (I undestood that guided visits were to be allowed) but in the week that I was there (admittedly the week of the Festival, but also come to think of it from the 1st to the 4th July) you can't even get a glimpse of it it is so shrouded with scaffolding etc.
