Spanish Cell Phone Numbers...712 as new prefix??

Yes
I just received two Spanish SIM cards (Lebara) and if I read the code correctly the phone numbers are 712-XXXX
The full code is 095 712-XXXX. Has there been a change? I remember that cell phone prefixes all started with 6 and another number (can't remember)...but not 7.

Maybe Ivar or one of the Spanish members can straighten me out.
Hmmm... this is news to me. I thought they all started with 6 as well. But then again, at one point they will run out of numbers in the 6 series and they may start with numbers in the 7 serie.

There is an article on this here:

..from late last year. So it looks like this is what is happening...

By the way, all fixed phones stars with 9, until last year...they ran out of numbers, and now there are also numbers starting with 8.

Saludos,
Ivar

Hey there,

Looks kind of odd...

Did you look at their FAQ's: http://www.lebara-mobile.es/en/faq.php#sim

How to find out Lebara Móvil´s phone number?

Call for free on *124# and you will immediately receive a SMS informing your Lebara Movil telephone number and your balance. You can call even with 0 € balance, and when your phone be either “active” or “inactive”.

You might only be able to do this in Spain. Where did you buy these?

Sorry, not too much help, but a start...

Good luck.

As far as I know, telephone numbers in Spain are still beginning by "6".
6 + eight figures.

I work in a telecommunications company, so when it changes I will know it even sooner than most customers.
