2023 Camino Frances
Hi guys, I walked the Frances last year. But am at the planing stage for next Camino. I wonder has anyone split routes? For example we met two Argentinian ladies that walked half French way and half north. But we did not meet at end to ask how it went. Most interested in French way split with Porto start from Portugal. May need a split caminos heading.

We did Porto to Santiago then Muxia in June 2019. However; wanted more mileage, so repeated the Logrono to Leon portion of Frances in late May then transported by train to Santiago for the night then bused to Porto the next morning. All in all, a very enjoyable pilgrimage of about 400 miles.

Hi Marie,
It might not be the best choice for a second Camino due to signage, distance, infrastructure etc, but an obvious “split” route would be Levante/Sureste.

George

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

I did what I called a "hybrid" Camino this year - Francés from SJPDP to León, Camino del Salvador from León to Oviedo, connected to the Norte at Avilés, then onto Finisterre after Santiago.
Trecile, is there good markings/signage showing the way from Oviedo up to Aviles?

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

I walked Pamplona - Fromista which i walked in near constant rain last spring, took the train to Astorga walked to Ponferrada where today i took the train to Tui walked over the bridge to Valenca and tomorrow will continue the train to Porto, Tuesday i start the Coastal CP to Santiago!! Then on to Finisterre-Muxia-SdC. How’s that for a mixed up split Camino? I💜it! Dee

This time last year we were in the middle of a split Camino.
First we walked the Aragones from Somport to Puenta La Reina then continued on the Frances to Burgos.
Then it was bus to Madrid and the plane to Porto. Had time to spare before we met our friends so spoilt ourselves on a last minute 7 day Douro River cruise.
(Thanks technology!!! Booked by our travel agent in Australia. We communicated by Facebook messenger while walking amongst the vines 😀😀)
We worked out our days and got the train to Coimbra to start walking. Met our friends in Porto and went on our merry way to Santiago on the coastal route.
Had a ball and would love to do it again in the spring.

How many days did you take to do that stretch...and do you recall where you stayed each night. I've read it takes 3 days.
Oviedo to Avilés is one day - 29 km. There are hotels/pensiones between Oviedo and Avilés, but no albergues.

Thanks, Trecile, for your quick reply! I'll probably take it in two days. I have a newbie with me and it's our start "right out the gate".

Greetings all. I was scheduled to start in Porto in a few days. Went for a 20 km hike yesterday (my longest thus far) and almost didn’t make it. By the time I got home, I could hardly walk...
I have a confession. I am terrified of - and yes now feel free to laugh - the top bed in bunks with no railing/fence (something to stop you falling out). I've managed to get away with it except...
This is the latest fad for Camino stay out of the wind and woods 🤗.
What are your favorite restaurants, bars, hotels, inns, etc on the Camino Frances NOT in albergues please? Gracias.
Yes, pardon me. So I've just read this cool article about the closing of the Puerta del Perdón in the Monastery of Santo Toribio for the holy year (and it is a very beautiful peurta for sure). It...
We just returned home from watching our second total solar eclipse here in the U.S. in 7 years. Our next is in 20 years. We have become hooked on the magical, mystical, moving unique experience...
