Friends and subjects of the all-powerful Lord If you would grant me the favor of listening to my words, I’d like to tell you of a strange event, Which in the end you will accept as the truth.
I master Gonzalo, from the village of Berceo, While on pilgrimage chanced upon a meadow, Green, untrodden, full of flowers, Just the resting place for an exhausted traveler…
All of us who can use our feet and legs, Even those shut in prison (lock-down) or lie upon their beds,
We are, all of us, pilgrims set upon the roads
