Start in SJPP at noon - walk to Orisson or Ronchesvalles?

CF summer-06, SJPP to Burgos Sept-13, Burgos to Astorga Sept-14 (Astorga to Santiago de Compostela sept 15)
I arrive in SJPDP before lunch in mid Sept 2013 and since I have been to the town twice before I am eager to start walking. I am used to walk both uphill and downhill but suppose it is rather late to start at noon and walk all the way to Ronchesvalles. Yes/No? Therefore I was thinking to stop at albergue Orisson. Anyone knows the e-mailaddress to them (since I have understood the message function on their website is not always working properly)?

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.

Hi Camille :) I just wrote them a few weeks ago and got an answer within few days so I think the message function is working. Buen Camino Anne

Camillis,

For two email addresses as well as a website for the Refuge Orisson see this earlier Forum thread >> el-camino-frances/topic14860.html#p102650

Buen Camino,

Thanks for your swift help! I have now sent a message via their web page and hope to receive a positive answer shortly. If not I will try their e-mail address.

That first day out is one of great excitement and wonder, a day to fine tune the fit of your back pack and other gear, a time to meet and talk with other pilgrims - to puff pant and faint your way up the side of the mountain. Taken together it's often difficult to hit your usual pace and rhythm and may be an especially difficult day. One of the wondrous things I remember from Springtime is the mist which creates an especially magical early morning view, one which slowly burns away as you walk to reveal the beauty and enchantment of the area. For these reasons leaving at noon in my opinion may not be such a great idea even if you should be able to "save" a day.

Scruffy - if I had a month I would not doubt to spend the night in SJPP, but this time I only have 10 days in total. Also I really look forward to spend some time at Orissons higher altitude. Last time I started out early in the morning in SJPP on a foggy day. It stayed foggy from beginning to end and I honestly did not see a thing of the mountains. Hopefully I get to see them this time, at least in the afternoon when I arrive to Orisson and when I get to the top of the col on the second day. hopefully it will be a clear day so I get to see it all this time. Otherwise another foggy, misty day will be just fine.

PS. Scruffy - I loved your poetic description of the first day from SJPP! I hope I will get to experience something like that during the morning I walk from Orisson.
