Time of past OR future Camino
Camino Portuguese, Norte
Hi everyone. I am starting the Mozarabe from Malaga in late May. So that my wife and dog will still recognise me, I am taking a break mid way and only walking to Salamanca, initially. Then returning to the UK via Madrid for a month. I am planning to return to complete the Camino in September.
Does anyone want to offer advice? I have previously (last year) done the Norte and Lisbon Portuguese Caminos. Have you done this route? How did you find accomodation?

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

€83,-
Great choice, it might be hot in some parts of the Malaga route, beware! In case of heavy storms, be very careful with flash floods in the stretch between Antequera and Lucena. The first 2 or 3 days are quite hilly and demanding, quite surprising if you are so close to the sea, but the route is a true rollercoaster with steep hills and ravines non stop.
This said, it is also BEAUTIFUL rural landscape.
Buen camino!!!

[NB I walked from Seville but I've visited Málaga and Córdoba]

Hot. A whole different hot than other caminos. Very very hot at times. Look up some stats for Córdoba, it's the hottest place in Europe. People do die on the VDLP. No shade, no water points all day quite a lot of the days. Carry a lot of water. Split water between two bottles in case one leaks. [I have two 2litre bladders with an interchangeable tube] Plan what you will eat the next day - you'll likely have to carry food most days, unlike on other caminos.

Talk all possible precautions against sun. A baseball cap is not enough. You are walking north, so your neck and the backs of your arms will cop it.

Accomodation was never ever a problem for me. Lovely lovely people. Enjoy!

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Our Atmospheric H30 poncho offers lightness and waterproofness. Easily compressible and made with our Waterproof fabric, its heat-sealed interior seams guarantee its waterproofness. Includes carrying bag.

€60,-
Walked from Seville to Salamanca last year in early May. It was cooler that what you’re probably going to run into and I was HOT. Can’t agree enough the the comment on heat, carrying enough water, and the lack of places to stop. That said, I’d walk that stretch again. Headed back in a few months for Salamanca to Santiago. Hope you’re not too late for the wildflowers!

Phuuuu, it will be hot. I walked this stretch 3 times but ususally during feb to max the first week of may. good luck and keep lots of water with you. buen camino.

Thanks for your comments. My dates were fixed for this year but like everyone else I have deferred until next year. I do love the heat. 2018 Portuguese Camino 37c for two weeks and loved it. Plan to start earlier next year.

Update to this post: my Camino was obviously postponed due to Covid. Flights rescheduled, now starting August 16th 2021 from Malaga.

Hey David, wish you a lovely walk. I was on the Camino Mozarabe in January / February 2021. All the albergues had been closed but we found, where ever we went, a roof over our heads. August will be hot in Andalucia and the Extremedarua not less. In any case, Buen Camino Peregrino.
