Before I ask, I know this will be a 'how long is a piece of string' question but I ask anyway. I am thinking of walking the Camino Aragones starting about April 11/12 2018, I would aim to be starting in Somport if the weather permits - am I being unduly optimistic in assuming that Somport will be accessible at that time of year?

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Our Atmospheric H30 poncho offers lightness and waterproofness. Easily compressible and made with our Waterproof fabric, its heat-sealed interior seams guarantee its waterproofness. Includes carrying bag.

Hi Seb

The photo to the left is taken at Somport in 2008 on April7th at about 8 AM as the sun was rising. It was around -5 C, and as Falcon has suggested snow covered the trail, but the upright markers were still visible. In addition another pilgrim had walked on the trail since the snow had fallen some days before, and his footprints had become frozen in place. Walking on the snow surface was a bit like walking on glass, but if I put my feet in the footprints that were already there I was able to negotiate the trail for about a kilometre, when I got below the snow line. Without the tracks to follow, I would have walked on the road.

Be brave.

Life is joyous.

Thank you Alan, it is beginning to sound as if this is a walk for later in the year, as I had originally feared. I am not the most stable of people, nothing psychological, but periodically suffer from BPV (Benign Positional Vertigo) and the combination of this with icy surfaces is not good.

Neither will be walking along the narrow path and drop to the water. I didn't realize that I had a bit of vertigo when the drop was on my right side....Camino always a good teacher if new experiences. Buen Camino.

Hi Seb. Not sure if there is reason for such fear. I started in Somport early April. The path was covered in ice and snow, so I decided to walk along the main road (enough space to walk, no worries), but way before reaching Canfranc Estacion all snow had disappeared. Felt like the best of both worlds really, being able to see snow (and people ski ing) but not having to slog through it. Icy surfaces were no problem at all during the rest of my camino. Remember Somport is at 1600 m. , Canfarnc at 1100, and it is all downhill from there. Buen Camino (the Aragones is a truely beautiful camino).

Thank you @Marc S. Unfortunately my plans are on indefinite hold as a close family member is ill. I will be taking a break from the forum for a while.
