Is anyone walking from St Jean on 19 April? I was planning to stay at Orisson that evening and walking the rest of the way to Roncesvalles the next day. Feeling a little bit nervous as I am doing it solo. Wondering if there will be many people on the road at that time?

I'm leaving SJPdP solo on the 23/4 so I'll be hot on your heels. No need to be nervous, just take everything as it comes. Buen Camino :)

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

€83,-
If you are leaving on 19th April you will not be on your own, there will be other pilgrims on the road at that time, just follow the person in front of you and hope they're going the right way.

You will probably sharing the Way with many fellow pilgrims in mid April. Most of whom are not members of this forum. ;-)

Hmmm. There is always a chance that you will lonely :(
But unlikely I think.

At that time of year I would suspect about 200 other people will be starting out on the same day!:eek:

Thanks for all your replies. I love walking on my own but also love company. I am just nervous about something happening to me! Hopefully there will be enough people in front and behind so I don't feel totally deserted!

That would be great. A lot more people than in my walking group!!!

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
If you plan to stay the first night at Refuge Orisson, I DO hope you made a reservation via e-mail.

They are generally 'completo' or full by the time you amble up there. So, without a reservation, you could be disappointed.

Hope this helps.

There are only two ways - up or down. Just make sure you are going up .....

If you move very fast, you'll catch up with me. I head off on the 24 March from SJPdP :)

I am also new to this and am flying from London to Biarritz, probably bus to Pamplona to start 22 April. I also am walking solo but looking forward to this adventure and maybe meeting up with you!?

I leave April 24th solo, will cross paths I'm sure at some point along the way. Am a Slow walker, fast walker, I plan on walking whatever speed or distance I feel like on that particular day. No schedules, no places I have to be, just walking is enough.

Hi there, Yes, I have already made my booking. Have also read about the place and hope the showers aren't cold!

Hi Diane, I have just booked my first 3 nights of accommodation to see how I go. I would like to take the stress out of being somewhere at a particular time. At the same time, I do want to get back home by a particular date. It sounds as if the most difficult bit is the type of path as I am used to walking on the hills in Scotland.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

Wouldn't that be fun! There is every chance we might meet up. Good luck!

Hi Jean, having walked those hills as well I think you will be fine, huff puff. I have booked Roncesvalles as I will definitely want 'a guaranteed room at the inn' and a hot meal if I survive that first bit, everything else that comes after is part of the adventure.

The showers are warm but they give you a single "jeton." That is a token that operates the hot water for FIVE MINUTES. In my recollection, you do not need to run the water to get it hot.

So, get everything you need to shower there and arranged, get ready, get naked, get wet and shower...FAST!

Also, DO wear shower slippers or flip flops. I caught a foot fungus there on my first night out a couple of years ago. Other than that minor issue, the place gets five stars from me.

I will be leaving on 7 or 8 April as a solo walker you could catch me up as I will be in no rush enjoy

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.

Sounds good. I'lll make sure I am ready before the water starts!

I have also booked Roncesvalles. I thought it best not to walk the whole way in one day to avoid any blisters.

Yes, I do wonder about the weather?!
Hi, when I started out in April...the sun was shining...warm enough at Orisson to sit on the deck with a libation and bask until supper. The next morning still sunny and just as we crossed into Spain the weather closed in. There was still boot deep snow the last 1000 feet of elevation. Again, as we dropped down into Roncesvalle it was sunny and dry. The next morning we began our trek to Zuberi in ankle deep, heavily falling snow. 10 km later it was overcast and on entering Zuberi sunny again. So, as you can see the weather is quite fickle on Camino.
Buen Camino,
Arn

Sunday April 22 thinking of starting early like 5:45-6:15ish. straight down to Roncesvalles, with God's blessings. Buen Camino to all.
