Would love to get started walking and stay somewhere outside of the city or if a great place someone who's been can suggest as a good place to start our day tomorrow .

You can get Credentials at the Albergue San Nicholas de Flue. It is at the lower side of a large car park near the town centre and I am sure you will be able to get directions there when you arrive.

Buen Camino,

The bus station is a bit distant from the main albergue and the castle, but almost on the Camino leaving in the morning. You probably will need a map; try information at the station. It will be about a twenty minute walk to the other side of the river past the castle to get to the albergue. They have credentials, and a very persistent donativo box!

The bus station is on the west side of town, the albergue on the east side, so it looks like you will have to walk back into town in the "wrong direction" for the credential. Staying in Ponferrada is not a bad idea, though it's not one of my favorite places. The castle is surely worth seeing, though the inside not so much.

There are two private albergues in Ponferrada and I really liked the Albergue Alea.

If you feel like walking once you get your credential, Gronze lists places in Columbrianos, which is the first place you get to once you're through the commercial outskirts of Ponferrada. https://www.gronze.com/etapa/ponferrada/villafranca-bierzo.
