Starting Pilgrimage in Kempten Germany/ Credential?

Hello!

I am heading to Europe in March 2012. I will be in Germany (Kempten) for my Grandmothers 90th birthday, and would possibly like to start my Camino from there. From Kempten to Konstanz to Geneva- Le Puy- SJPdP then Camino Frances to Santiago De Compostella.

I realize this is a long trek, and possibly not much as far as pilgrim support for the first leg of the journey, but I am ok with that. I also have several people to stay with along the way (Germany and Swiss part of it).

My questions though are:

Is it possible to get a Credential in Kempten? Or if not, in Munich?
Is there a guide book, or further information on the route through Germany?
What about support systems/ cheap accomodation?

Any advise, insight, or first hand knowledge is greatly appreciated!

Buen Camino....

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Djenny,

To begin your German camino research check out this Forum thread which lists many German resources >> http://www.caminodesantiago.me/board/long-distance-pilgrims/topic9448.html

Good luck with your plans.

By the way your profile photo of a solitary walker is splendid!

Buen Camino,

Margaret

Hello Djenny, Guten Tag!
Here is a link to a pilger forum in Germany. Members are quite active so I'm sure you'll get a quick response to questions.

http://pilgerforum.de/forum/index.php

You might also like to contact Pilgerpastor Bernd Lohse, Hauptkirche St. Jacobi, Hamburg. Although Hamburg is a very long way away from where you intend starting, Pastor Lohse is deeply involved in pilgrimage, organising gatherings and meetings for those interested in pilgrimage in Germany and further afield. Every year or so he leads group pilgrimages along the St Olaf Way, Norway. Perhaps he has colleagues and contacts in the region where you intend starting.

and here's a link to a Jakobsweg which passes through Kempten. I'm not sure which route you're thinking of taking but there is also a Guide book advertised on the site.

Tag Djenny!
I walked from Prague to Nuremberg in May-June 2012, and the daily info is in my blog (link below). While of course you can get a credential in Germany, it will be more unique and meaningful if you obtain one from your Canadian pilgrim association (http://www.santiago.ca/).
Kempten is on the Munchner Jakobsweg; info here (http://www.deutsche-jakobswege.de/muenchner-jakobsweg.html) including the route guide (which is in German, of course) and a download for the GPS track. (For details on using gps tracks, see the forum thread). From Lake Constance to Geneva the guidebook is available from Amazon.de or .uk (http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/3866863365/?tag=casaivar-21)
Accommodation is at small inns (gasthause in German), and was running me about 35 Euros per night, including a huge breakfast (with enough leftovers for lunch) for a single room. Dinner is separate and was running 10-20 Euros, depending on quality and beer consumption.

Thank You Everyone for the quick and helpful responses!

I am still new to the forum, and I feel so blessed to have found this community to share,
and learn from... it is very inspiring.

I will certainly take into account all of your tips and links, and will continue my research!

I will also make sure to give an update as I get closer to the date of departure.

Cheers everone :)

Buen Camino, und Gute Nacht....

Djenny.
