Starting to gather information

My girlfriend and I finished our first Camino not long ago. We are talking about another the Portuguese route from Lisbon to Santiago comes up as 1 of 2 routes. Aside from this forum what books or articles would be useful to us. The second option would be the Camino from Seville to Santiago. We heard so many great things about the Caminos in Portugal, people, towns, etc.

We want to decide, then prepare. Language is an essential part for me for directions, connections, and general communication.

My Spanish is very basic and compelled me to learn more while on our Camino. Portuguese will take time for me to learn( any thoughts on lessons?).

Were thinking April 2017 to start?

Hi Rob, The Brierley book was good, and would have been ever more useful if I had not left it at home!If you decide on the CP then, based on my experience of walking from Porto to SdC, your not knowing a lot of Portuguese will not be a problem. On almost every occasion that I tried to use my very basic store of words and phrases, the person I was speaking to would invariably respond in English as it is widely spoken in the country. I found the phrase 'Fala Inglese?' the most useful to determine how the conversation would develop, as well, of course as please, thank you, hello, good day.

Thank you. I use Duolingo presently for Spanish and like the format plus its free. It even ranks high in reviews against paid for sites. I am compelled now to learn more and better Spanish since my Camino.

Ill look into dueling for Portuguese. Thanks again

From my experience in Portugal you will be OK with English. In Spain you should have something like a dictionary, but most of the people understand English (and if they say they don't it's just because they don't want to speak). In the albergues I was English was OK, in the bars I could order what I wanted, so don't worry
