Statistics are commonly based on Compostela recipients in Santiago. The 2007 statistics from the Albergue de “Las Carbajalas” in León demonstrate the actual albergue population mid-Meseta. Interestingly, up to about the year 2000, Spaniards and foreigners were about equal in number. By 2003 foreigners outnumbered locals by 2:1, and last year in 2007 by a whopping 3:1.
