Each small town has a fire station, some more than one. Pilgrims with the accreditation can stay there and are made very welcome. A small fee (donation) of 5 euros is appreciated. Ask for the Bombeiros. Pronounced... bomb - bear - russ, and it's easier to say you are doing the Camino de Fatema to locals who all know this route.

Warning!

Although this information it’s correct, it could happen to have also lodging facilities denied by Firefighters, especially in the North of Portugal, where some thefts of equipment occurred recently. There are Commanders and 2nd Commanders who are denying sometimes requests from pilgrims, both Portuguese and from abroad.

Try to see in advance where you are going to stay for the night, and plan also alternative places and routes.

Best Regards
Diogo

The Bomberos are not quite as welcoming as they once were. There are a number of albergues open now between Porto and Valença and so don´t count on their open arms! On the coastal route you might have more luck.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.
