Stop in Markina or Etxebarria?

Hi...the usual stop in between Deba and Gernika is Markina-Xemein. But since we want to stay in a hotel there doesn't seem to be one. Another alternative is to stay in Etxebarria instead. But it seems it's the same thing as far as hotels are concerned. Anyway hotels aside which of the two is a better place to spend the night in terms of more places to eat etc? Thanks.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

I can recommend the Casa Rural Intxauspe in Markina. I stayed in the albergue section, but they have private rooms. They serve a good optional communal dinner and breakfast, and their grounds are lovely and relaxing.

Casa Rural Intxsauspe in Markina have nice private rooms, and a very good vibe. Tasty dinner and breaksfast. My wife and myself slept there two months ago, and planing to return for vacation, next fall.
Can find the addres, tfn number etc in Gronze website

Thanks @Pingüigrino @trecile...what about Etxebarria? There's a Hotel Antsotegi that's also recommended. You guys think Markina is the better choice?

I can only go on my own experience at Casa Rural Intxsauspe, which was very positive. I don't know anything about Etxebarria other than it doesn't appear to be directly on the Camino.

Hotel antsotegi is beautiful and really not far from the Camino - it has a good restaurant and bar. you can take a ( slightly!!!) less treacherous descent directly into the town it is in on tarmac which cuts off about 10 mins rather Than going into markina directly on the very sharp descent and then walking to Ansotegi. Both options will still hurt the knees! It will add another 10 mins or so onto your Camino the next day as you need to walk into markina via a park walkway but it is an easy walk into markina. For facilities Markina definitely has more - but I was tired after the long walk from deba so only wanted to eat and go to sleep so didn’t need anything more than Antsotegi offered

I use Alltrails a lot here in the US, in Iceland, on the Via Podiensis and a bit on the CF. Will it be useful on the Norte? For example, people here say the "warm up" from Biarritz to Irun (or...

Tomorrow I fly to Bilbao to start my 5th stint on the Camino. I did the Frances in three parts (2016, 2017 and 2022). Last year I did the Portuguese from Porto. I did the first 200 km of the...
I thought I had this all figured out, but I have ended up with 2 train tickets from San Sebastian (I don't even know if it's the airport or the town) to Irun, instead of ONE that goes all the way...
